5 Ways to Make Your Summit Trip to #ATX Even Better

From two-stepping at the White Horse to watching the bats fly out Congress Bridge, there's a lot to do in Austin while you're here. Whether you stay a few days after Summit or have a break between sessions, here are a few things to do in our beautiful and strange city.

1 | Get around on two wheels

Austin is a bike friendly city providing hundreds of bike lanes and nature trails to explore. B-Cycle is Austin's bike share program. To get rolling, visit any of the many B-Cycle kiosks downtown to rent for a few hours or a few days. To really see what makes this city so great, get yourself cruising on two wheels.

2 | Take a downtown detour.

Discover a side of Downtown Austin most people never see by downloading the detour app to experience “Radiolab's: The Year that Broke Austin.” This interactive walking tour is a truly special project that debuted at SXSW last year. Take the tour you can only experience in Austin. Smell the smells, hear the sounds, and taste the tequila of Austin's present while learning about its dark and haunting past.

3 | Be a foodie, dude.

Grab a bite at La Condesa, a restaurant where the atmosphere is just as fun as the cuisine. Make sure to snag a guacamole taster and a specialty summer cocktail. If you find yourself around Barton Springs, snag yourself some P. Terry’s Burgers. Vege alert! They have one of the best Vegetarian burgers in Austin. Or, if you're looking for a dive with great grub, check out Turf N' Surf, just a few blocks from the W Hotel. Snag a beer and a bite. Great food, cold beer, and bar games await. Here's a menu tip: Order the blackened chicken tacos and jalapeño hushpuppies.

4 | Listen to jazz at the Elephant Room.

After dining at one of Austin's essential eateries, catch some cool at Austin's best jazz joint, the Elephant Room. This basement club is a low lit, cozy nook where you'll hear Austin's best Jazz every night of the week. You'll find it free most weekdays with only a small cover Friday through Saturday. This music institution is worth every cent.

5 | Amy’s Anytime

For that late night treat, you've got to snag something sweet from Amy's Ice Cream. This 31-year-old creamery churns out the sweet that keeps this city wired. Amy’s Ice Cream is the creamiest, dreamiest Ice Cream in Austin. Grab a cone before, during, or after Summit. Even after you fill up on tacos and brisket, there's always room for a scoop.

We are thrilled to have you visit our hometown and take part in all the weird and deliciousness that makes Austin so great. Whether you're here just for Summit or sticking around for ACL Music Fest, we hope these recs make your trip even better.
