Being an event manager for a social media software company is a lot of fun. Part of my job is to always be up on the latest and greatest social media events happening all over the world so I spend some time each week digging deep into the interwebs to get the scoop. Looking through the social sphere this week, I surfaced quite a bit of big news (no, I’m not talking about Kimye naming their baby North West) – topping the list for me was the announcement of video for Instagram! Here are the articles that made my Friday Five:

1. Introducing Video on Instagram
Is this the end of Vine as we know it? On Thursday morning, Instagram announced that you can now take up to 15 seconds of video through the Instagram camera and have access to 13 new filters built specifically for video.

2. Facebook Insights Gets a Makeover
I can almost hear a little cheer from social marketers around the world with this announcement. Facebook insights have always been helpful, but now they are taking a step up with a new design and more detailed charts for a better understanding of your social business.

3. Why the half-life of a Pinterest pin is thousands of times longer than a tweet or Facebook post
There is a lot of interesting data out there around Pinterest and this article pulls in some great stats to remind us that for many brands, Pinterest is a chief engagement driver.

4. Why CMOs should make business decisions based on consumer needs
This article discusses why CMOs need to become the Consumer Subject Matter Experts for their company. Based on data from Accenture Interactive’s latest CMO Insights Study, this article explains why it’s more important than ever to focus on a company’s number one asset: it’s consumers.

5. 35 Completely Useless Facts You Need to Know Right Now
Because who doesn’t love Buzzfeed? This list will give you an arsenal of awesomely useless facts to impress your co-workers at happy hour this afternoon. Who would have thought Tupac danced Ballet in high school? The more you know.

Want to talk social or tell me which useless fact surprised you most? You can tweet me at @A_Gallman.'s picture
