The Seattle Foundation Shows the Power of Social and Aims to Break Records for GiveBIG, King County’s Biggest Day of Giving

SEATTLE, WA – The Seattle Foundation’s “GiveBIG” campaign returns Wednesday, May 15, with area nonprofit organizations, corporate sponsors and local philanthropists aiming to motivate even more donors to step up and support their favorite causes through social media channels.

During this one-day, online event, residents of King County make donations to any of more than 1,400 local nonprofits through -- and a share of every contribution is “stretched” with funds provided by The Seattle Foundation, area companies and philanthropists.

Now in its third year, the campaign is putting new emphasis on the individuals who have collectively contributed over $10 million in the two previous years, through contributions large and small. This year the “everyday hero” campaign leverages the Mass Relevance social experience platform, which helps brands and organizations involve their audience to both capture and amplify their voice. The Seattle Foundation is using the Mass Relevance platform to visualize social interactions around the campaign, engage donors in online conversations about GiveBIG, and to help generate donations on "GiveBIG" day.

The event, presented by The Seattle Foundation, is fueled by nonprofit organizations that mobilize their supporters primarily through social media and online communications, to “give big” through an online donation. Fans are encouraged to take pictures of their heroes and share them via social media to be included in a digital experience. GiveBIG participants can make contributions through The Seattle Foundation’s online Giving Center, which includes information about more than 1,400 nonprofit organizations working in a broad range of areas: arts and culture, basic needs, economy, education, environment, health & wellness, and neighborhoods and communities. The Seattle Foundation supports global giving through its partnership with Seattle International Foundation and other globally focused organizations.
